No, seriously!
Why do people who hear me on the phone think I'm a girl? I've actually ended up in girl only job interviews because they thought I was female... Even though I have a male name....

It's even happened in real life! The other day in a store, the clerk behind the counter and when she heard my voice... she thought I was female...

Yet, people say I don't have a female sounding voice....

This doesn't make sense!

And you wouldn't believe the number of times someone online thought I was female...

Do you think I'm a girl because I'm female because I'm nice and caring? Does this mean you think men are puppy kicking jerks? ¬_¬

Because every time someone thinks I'm a girl because I'm nice to them, I think they must think men are well... not nice!

I'm not mad now or anything, but every time this happens online, I can't help but to wonder WHY the other person thinks I'm female...

I will admit it. I thought you were a girl before someone corrected me and I looked on your main page and saw "male."

I don't really know why I assumed without looking to be sure. (Sorry by the way!)
I'm sure my subconscious came into play when I assumed you were female. Maybe it was the fact that you were friendly and outgoing when you visited me. Or maybe it's because my art doesn't normally attract guys - other than pixel artists, but I usually get way more female watchers than male watchers. Hmm.

Anyway, I bet this happens to a lot of people online, but I can understand why it would be a bit frustrating if it happens a lot - even on the phone.

Hmm, I'm still pondering on whether DA is 99% female or if just my art attracts female viewers, it could explain why some people here think I'm female, but not elsewhere..

It doesn't bother me, but I keep wondering if people who think I a girl because I'm friendly think that men are jerks... =P

No, DA isn't 99% female, but I am convinced that females out number males when it comes to pixel art. (I am including pixel dolls in this category, too.)

Nah, I am sure most of these people don't feel men are jerks in general. Lol. I don't think men are generally jerks, myself.
It's just..on Deviatart, I rarely come across a male pixel artist who is outgoing and friendly right off the bat like you are. I'm not insulting male pixel artists here, or anything - that's just my experience and observation.

This is part when the gamer in me gets confused, because a part of me wonders if all the female pixel artists dig old 2D games, actually I tend to assume all pixel artists are retro gamers in one way or another... :P

But I guess that does make sense, the last male pixel artist I met was such a jerk I had to block him, I didn't talk about it here, but he basically said I was no good and I should quit... then he asked for to do a collab with him... then he insulted my art and people I admire... then he asked if I could do a pixel present for him... The I saw him insult artists who are much better than me... and I got fed up with him...

He's the main reason I'm afraid of joining Pixel Joint, because now I think everybody there is a jerk...

I don't really dig any video games now, bu when I was little I played all of those games from Nintendo and Sega. xD

Wow - this guy sounds like a little kid. How awful.
I have never come across anyone that annoying...yet. o_o

I don't think the users at pixel joint are immature like THAT guy, but I will never join. I get the feeling my style of pixel art won't be welcomed. I have visited the forum a couple times when I was linked there for some reason or another. The forum as a whole seems elitist. Plus I have heard other people's accounts of their bad experiences there, but...I don't know.
No thanks. xD

So, I guess I am right about old games then? :XD:

Maybe they are elitists? This guy was surprised that I didn't know any "celebrities" from there, so maybe they are snobs?

Hehe, I guess so. ;)

Lol. "Celebreties."

Yeah, a lot of people refer to some PJ artists as "The Pros of pixel art." and I guess that makes them pixel art "celebrities."
How do you not know any PJ celebrities?!!!! Unthinkable!!!
xD

I don't know any PJ "celebrities." I don't even know who the PJ members are here at DA - none of them have ever befriended me, nor chatted with me - whoever they may be. If someone ever insults me because I don't know any pixel celebrities from PJ, I will seriously lol.

Anyway, most of the PJ pixel artists ARE talented - I won't deny that, but they do seem elitist in my opinion and I do not get the feeling that I would fit in there. I know everyone is open for improvement and I know my pixel art has more than enough room for improvement, but pixel art isn't something I take very seriously. (Not like I would with my traditional art or even other forms of digital art that I am just now learning) It's mostly something I like to do for fun when I'm bored or want to relax with muh paintbrush tool. I don't mind the occasional crit here and there on DeviantArt - I always listen and keep them in mind, buuut, PJ members seem to take pixel art a lot more seriously than I do. Which is all fine and dandy. There is nothing wrong with that.

What I do get is how stingy they are with the "tools" and "how it should look", just look at traditional art or comics, some of my favorite comics aren't shaded at all or have little shading and nobody complains about them!

I take pixel art serious, but I don't agree with their rules, you guys can take 5 months for your masterpiece, but I have a comic schedule to mantain! =P

Don't know what to say... I always thought... or knew, even, that you were a guy. Strange.
